Photo treasures: What ever happened to Uncle George Levi Miller?

George Miller

I don't know what happened to Uncle George Miller.  He was born in Louisville, Saint Lawerence County, NY to Rufus Miller and Charlotte Stork.  George's mother, Charlotte Stork Miller (surname spelled Strack, Storch?) was born in New York in 1820 and died 9 June 1864 from consumption. Jemima Alguire, a young maid from Stormont, Ontario Canada came over to visit a sister who lived nearby. The brother-in-law was approached by Rufus Miller to have Jemima assist with child care and household chores.  This is how Jemima came into the household of her future husband. After the death of his mother Charlotte, George was given a new mother Jemima.  My grandmother Gwen Shultz Rute said her mother said George never really remembered his mother, and considered Jemima his mother. Similarly, Jemima never treated George any different than her own children.

George moved to Fernvalley, Palo Alto County, Iowa with the rest of the family in about 1874.  Did George move west to British Columbia or Oregon with the rest of the family? That is a question yet to be answered.  In the meantime, here are two lovely photos of George taken from my great-grandmother Lillian May Miller's album.
